Procrastination in Disguise

The other day I was working with a client who longs for a different life than the one she’s living. She’s content enough, but knows there is so much more out there for her. But, like all of us experience from time to time, she is facing some fear about what change will mean to her and of the unknown.

So what do we do when we don’t want to face change?

We create excuses to procrastinate on things that will move us in a new direction. Is this something that we consciously do? Not always. In fact we become very adept at believing our excuses.

What changes would you like to make?

Consider this: If the “reasons” that you “can’t” create change are external, then you are most likely procrastinating. External resources are available to all of us. If you don’t believe this then it’s time to do the internal work. Ask yourself sincerely if the reasons that you can’t change something in your life are excuses or solid facts.  State the reason out loud and ask yourself, “is that really, undeniably, true?” Ask, “Is this something that I absolutely cannot change?”
